Dr Geoff Harmer
Dr Geoff Harmer is an independent consultant specialising in IT governance and best practices for IT Service Management based on COBIT, ITIL and ISO/IEC 20000.
He has 28 years experience in the IT industry as a lecturer and consultant and has been awarded Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP) and Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) status. Since 2001 he has been an accredited lecturer for ITIL with the Information Systems Examination Board (ISEB). He holds accredited lecturer status for COBIT with ISACA and for ISO 20000 with itSMF. He has held an Associate Lectureship in Technology with the UK Open University since 2000.
After writing FORTRAN programs in the late 1960s while researching for a PhD in neutron physics and subsequently during the 1970s as the main approach to conducting research in optical design, he moved full time into the IT sector in 1981 where he worked as a trainer, network manager, consultant and training manager for a major computer vendor, then several consultancy houses specialising in IT strategy and IT service management for 23 years before setting up as an independent consultant in 2004.
He specialises in communicating and developing ideas and approaches around standards and framework for information technology through courses, workshops, seminars and consultancy.
He has conducted education and consultancy assignments for UK and Singapore government departments, UK National Health Service, European Commission and quoted companies in financial, aerospace, telecommunication and IT sector. Over 28 years he has been a highly respected presenter of courses, workshops and seminars to clients in 23 countries.
